Pop Rock Artist of the Month: The Monkees

Wannabe movie producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider were motivated by a 1694 British comedy flick A Hard Day’s Night featuring one of the most commercially successful bands, The Beatles.  The aspiring filmmakers want to develop an American TV series about a rock and roll group. They formed a musical quartet called The Monkees, it was comprised of Micky Dolenz (drummer), Michael Nesmith (guitarist), Peter Tork (keyboardist) and Davy Jones (lead vocals). Producer Don Kirshner managed their music. In 1966, the television show was aired presenting the catastrophes of a struggling band. Due to the success of the TV show, the band continues to make music recordings and started performing live on concerts. Their music albums and hit singles have sold over 65 million copies globally.
